Married 3rd Christina Majorie Zambra, daughter of Colonel William Warren Shaw Zambra CVO and granddaughter of Sir John Mann; four sons. Minshall was well known for his travels, which included a two-year sailing trip on various bodies of water throughout Europe and a trek across the Sahara desert in a three-wheeled light truck, and he is thought to be one of the men on whom author Ian Fleming based his notorious spy character, James Bond. After his death, the local RNPS arranged for his ashes to be placed at sea, offshore from Sparrow's Nest, the Lowestoft headquarters of RNPS.
